A big funding boost from the provincial and municipal governments for upgrades to a local recreation centre.
The Crossman Community Centre/Kay Arena is receiving $500,000.
The funds were announced on Friday.
The province is providing $ 206,400 while the city is contributing $309,600.
They’ll be used for upgrades including an ice plant renewal, a heat exchanger, a snow-melt system and circulating pumps.
“The Crossman Community Centre-Kay Arena is a critical facility in our community,” says Moncton Deputy Mayor Paulette Thériault. “Not only does it provide residents with opportunities to participate in a wide range of physical fitness activities, it is an important gathering place where people can connect with their friends and neighbours. This investment in its arena facilities will help ensure our on-ice programming is available to serve residents for years to come.”
The complex is located in Moncton’s east end.
It includes an ice surface, gymnasium, multi-purpose rooms and a year-round indoor walking track. In winter, the arena hosts hockey, ringette, figure skating and recreational skating.
In summer, the space is used for ball hockey, lacrosse and volleyball.
