A 22-year-old man from Shediac has been charged following an investigation into a series of incidents in the community.
The charges stem from multiple incidents involving vehicle thefts, an attempted robbery, and a planned home invasion.
Police started investigating in the Shediac and Sackville areas this week after several vehicles were reported stolen.
On May 5, officers in Sackville found a stolen Chevrolet Equinox in a parking lot in Memramcook and seized it as part of the investigation.
The same week, police in Shediac located another stolen vehicle—a Toyota Corolla—in the parking lot of an apartment building.
Two people got into the car and drove away, but officers did not chase them. Instead, police used RCMP drone technology to later find the car abandoned in another parking lot.
The case escalated the following week on Tuesday when a Shediac homeowner reported two suspicious vehicles and individuals in their backyard.
Officers say the suspects fled when confronted.
Police stopped one of the vehicles and found evidence suggesting the suspects had attempted a robbery at the home.
Police later stated that further investigation revealed another suspect had been planning a break-in at a different residence with the intention of stealing multiple firearms.
RCMP said officers immediately contacted the homeowners and enacted a safety plan.
On Wednesday, police carried out an operation that led to the interception of a vehicle and the arrest of a 22-year-old man.
Officers also noted that he was found with a stolen RCMP badge.
A 23-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were also taken into custody but were later released pending court appearances.
Later that same day, officers searched a home in Shediac as part of the investigation.
During the search, police seized a sawed-off shotgun, rifles, a pistol, airsoft guns, a bulletproof vest, concealment clothing, stolen property, a vehicle, and electronic devices.
On Thursday, the 22-year-old man appeared in court by tele-remand and was charged with robbery with a firearm.
He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to return to court on May 20 at 9:30 a.m.
Police say the investigation is still ongoing as they continue to gather information and examine potential links between incidents.
