A group that looks to enrich and enhance the quality of life for seniors in the city is making recommendations to the City of Moncton.
The Seniors Advisory Committee outlined four priorities to Council.
“We continue working with the senior centre group to establish a dedicated Centre. We appreciate that the Council has supported this initiative, and we hope the Council will continue to support this group financially when a location is found. Additionally, we encourage the city council to prioritize public safety issues affecting seniors so that older adults in our communities feel welcome and safe when attending events and when exploring parks and trails and while frequenting businesses and accessing services,” Committee Chair Payson Rowell told City Councillors.
“The Seniors Advisory Committee encourages Codiac Transpo to improve transportation services to seniors, especially for those who do not drive or have cars. We also encourage the city of Moncton to use a wide and inclusive marketing strategy to inform seniors when promoting the city of Moncton’s events and services in order to reach as many residents as possible. ”
The Committee also made recommendations on services, such as public safety, public works, recreation and transportation.
“I believe making activities available, facilities and parks across the city to create greater accessibility, updating and relaunching the seniors-friendly business program, and maintaining the city of Moncton’s status as an Age-Friendly City are some of these areas of interest,” Rowell expressed.
He also added that they are currently looking to recruit new members for the committee, because many are retiring this year.
