Car enthusiasts are celebrating 25 years of Atlantic Nationals Extravaganza in Moncton.
Show Chair Bill Doherty says it all happens from July 9 to 13.
“Starts Wednesday afternoon at Caseley Park in Riverview. We’re doing what we call an ice cream social for our participants. Wednesday evening is a real kickoff for the show, and that’s at Action Car and Truck Accessories on Horseman Drive. Friday is the big street closure. We close Main Street from Lutz to the Pedway, and some of the side streets as well. Tens of thousands of people during the day and into the evening. We have a concert going on Friday evening. We have five bands, four local bands, and headliner Lighthouse, and it’s a show that’s not to be missed. Centennial Park is on Saturday and Sunday, where you’ll see around 2000 and a ton of vendors, and lots of food,” Show Chair Bill Doherty told our newsroom.
In celebration of the 25th anniversary, Doherty says there’s also a special new addition to the show this year.
“We’re going to close down Main Street again on Saturday, but from Bonaccord to Weldon. On that stretch, we’re going to park all kinds of cars. We are going to have bands at 10 o’clock. We’re going to have a great fireworks show off the Avenir Centre. You’ll also have a chance to see the cars in motion as we’ve changed the cruise route. This year, it’s going to go down Highfield Street, out Canada Street, up Vaughn Harvey, on John and then down Highfield again,” Doherty adds.
Vehicles are coming from right across Canada this year, with the furthest in the country from Alberta, but Doherty says they also have a bunch coming from Quebec, Ontario, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
There are also vehicles coming from the United States, from places including Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas.
Many of the registrations are from new entrants for the Atlantic Nationals this year, which Doherty says is great news.
Motorists who need to travel through the downtown on Friday or Saturday night will want to take note of street closures.
