New Brunswickers are expressing their thanks to those battling wildfires in the province.
Moncton, Riverview and Dieppe firefighters have been assisting the Department of Natural Resources to battle an out-of-control blaze in Irishtown.
Riverview Mayor Andrew Leblanc expressed his gratitude during Monday night’s Town Council meeting, “We have crews that are over there right now who are trying to help battle that fire, and we appreciate all the work that our fire crew does.”
A reminder that the Crossman Centre/Kay Arena in Moncton is closed to provide lodging for wildfire personnel, but the public is being asked not to drop off food or other items at the centre.
DNR says the focus of their resources is to get wildfires under control, and they do not have enough of them to manage donations as well.
As of Tuesday morning, the Irishtown fire had covered around 45 hectares.
Residents remain on alert to evacuate if needed.
