A large recall of various brands of pistachios and products containing the nut continues to expand.
There are now 105 laboratory-confirmed cases of Salmonella linked to the outbreak, which includes one case in New Brunswick.
Other cases have been found in British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, and Manitoba.
Illnesses occurred between early March and September 2025, affecting individuals between the ages of 2 and 75 years old. The Public Health Agency of Canada says the majority of those who have become sick were women.
Sixteen people have been hospitalized.
Salmonellosis is a foodborne bacterial illness that can affect anyone exposed to a contaminated food product.
People who are infected with Salmonella bacteria can spread Salmonella to other people for several days to several weeks after they have become infected, even if they don’t have symptoms.
Salmonellosis has a wide range of symptoms, including chills, a fever, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and a sudden headache.
Symptoms usually start within six to 72 hours after exposure and last between four and seven days.
If you have one of the listed products in your home, you should throw it out.
