Concerns surrounding school buses and motorists.
Anglophone East School District Spokesperson Stephanie Patterson says bus drivers are still reporting numerous red light violations,” Which means that ten to twelve cars each day are going through the stop sign and red lights while children are loading or unloading from the buses.”
She adds it is very scary.
Fifty-five of the Anglophone East school buses are equipped with exterior video cameras, and Aubrey Kirkpatrick, Director of Finance and Administration, says seventeen more are coming.
When asked at a recent District Education Council meeting whether or not the videos are provided to law enforcement, Patterson said they are.
“We give them to the commercial vehicle department and they issue a ticket,” Kirkpatrick added.
Fines for this type of infraction are thousands of dollars.
Anglophone East School District transports around 14,000 students on 142 school buses each day.
