The Université de Moncton has officially launched its new Centre for Excellence in Pedagogy, a project aimed at supporting innovation and improving teaching across its campuses.
The Centre was unveiled on Friday during a gathering on the Moncton campus that included members of the university community and partner organizations.
University president and vice-chancellor Denis Prud’homme said the Centre is a key part of the school’s Cap sur l’Avenir 2023-2028 strategic plan.
“This initiative reflects a vision of academic excellence that encourages engagement and creativity,” Prud’homme said in a release.
The Centre will be overseen by the vice-rectorate for academic and research and will lead five projects, including work on innovative teaching strategies, assessment and artificial intelligence, online learning, program outcomes, and course plan harmonization.
Vice-President Academic and Research Gilles C. Roy said the Centre will provide workshops, training sessions, and resources to help faculty improve their teaching.
The Centre was created through the merger of the Service d’animation et de soutien à l’enseignement and the Groupe des technologies de l’apprentissage.
Director Sandra Marquis said its vision is to create “a stimulating, inclusive, and innovative learning environment where every member of the university community can thrive and succeed.”
It will also host the Strategic Research Chair in Creativity and Engagement, announced for 2025 and led by Professor Éric Trudel.
He said the chair will focus on strengthening students’ language skills by analyzing writing practices and offering concrete resources to support their studies and professional development.
The university said the Centre will continue to work with internal and external partners, including the provincial Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Digital Museums Canada, and the Three Nations Group, to advance teaching and digital learning.
