The annual collection of food and monetary donations has begun in Anglophone East schools.
This is the 26th year of the tradition for students competing to make sure their school brings in the most.
“It seems every year the need is there. It increases, and we’ve done some great work in the past. We keep increasing our fundraising efforts to support our families. The way we do it is a youth supporting youth sort of challenge. All of our schools, high school, middle school, and elementary schools have fundraising initiatives, see who can collect the most donations, and who can collect the most canned items. It goes by weight, so it gets quite competitive if you can imagine,” Spokesperson Luc Malenfant explained.

On December 17th, they’ll send a school bus around to all of the schools to “Fill the Bus” with food,”To collect all of these food items that then go to support our community, our nutrition programs and our families in Moncton,” Malenfant said.
Donations are distributed to regional food banks during the festive season.
School buses will also be parked at select Sobey’s locations on December 6 and 13. Students will be there with staff, collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations from the public.
