A group of women will come together on Wednesday to raise funds for organizations in need.
The organization ‘100 Women Who Care of Greater Moncton’ currently has 78 members and is looking for more.
“We’re not quite at 100 but obviously always open to new members and really excited for the impact that we’re having in the community,” spokesperson Jo-Ann Phillips said.
The way the meetings work, three groups come and present to the members. They explain who they are, what they do, the impact they have on the community and how the money will benefit them.
The members then vote, and the group with the most votes receives 80 per cent of the funds, while the other two groups get ten per cent each.
The members of ‘100 Women Who Care of Greater Moncton quarterly, and they donate $100 per meeting.
The non-profit groups that make their pitch must be registered charities
“The conversation is powerful. It’s very educational. It really helps us to see the great work that’s happening in the community,” Phillips added.
Tonight’s meeting will be held at Gallagher’s Irish pub on Main Street at 5:30 p.m. The three groups presenting are the Moncton Boys and Girls Club, Pro Jeunesse Dieppe and the Karing Kitchen.
Since May 2021, the group 100 Women Who Care Greater Moncton has raised $131,700 for charitable groups.
