Conversations about the funding of the Riverview Recreation Complex are progressing between the Town of Riverview and the provincial and federal governments.
At the last Riverview Town Council Meeting, Mayor Andrew LeBlanc provided an update on the estimated $32.6 million complex.
“Over the last month or two, we’ve made a significant amount of progress in those conversations,” said LeBlanc.
The town wants to see the provincial and federal governments contribute $10.6 million and $13 million, respectively.
If the recent flurry of funding announcements is any indication of what’s to come, then there could be a reason to stay optimistic about the complex.
“If you’ve been watching the news as of late, there’s certainly been some funding from other levels of government that’s been given out,” said Leblanc.
The Mayor remains adamant that while no agreement has been made, conversations with local MPs and MLAs have been positive.
Without funding, the complex would be sent back to council; However, LeBlanc is confident and optimistic the plan will reach the finish line.
“Our priority is just to get a commitment from the other levels of government for this year. Whether or not the funding gets released to us this year that’s okay, we would at least like to have the commitment, so it helps us plan and set our timeline.”
