If you’re looking for a way to ring in the New Year, why not try a refreshing dip in Palmer’s Pond on Route 106?
The annual Dorchester Polar Dip is going ahead.
It’ll be held on New Years day with registration starting at 12:30pm.
COVID-19 rules will apply, with social distancing, and you must wear a mask.
The suggested donation is $25 a person, or $50 for a group of two or more.
Funds raised will benefit the Dorchester Fire Department, Bob Edgett’s Boxing Club and youth community projects.
If you are planning to participate in the Dorchester Lions Annual Polar Dip, the Club has these suggestions to make it more enjoyable.
-Jumpers will jump one at a time.
-Wear a pair of flip flops or old sneakers. The bottom is muddy. If the flip flops come off they may be trapped under the ice and lost [at least until spring]. Old sneakers are better than walking back through the snow in your bare feet!
-Bring a robe, blanket, or large towel[s]. The weather can be cold and stormy. You want to stay as warm as you can while waiting for your turn to make the jump and after ‘the Dip’. There is no changing room.
-If you have received a registration form, have it filled out and present it.
-Observers are advised to stay off the ice; If you fall in and get wet, you are required to pay a $35.00 Late Fee for participating in the Polar Dip.
-Donations will be collected from spectators during the event.
– Showing up in costume or fancy dress is encouraged – Fancy masks are a bonus. This adds lots of colour to the event. Check out the “Dorchester Polar Dip” on YouTube.
-Be at least 122 cm tall [four feet].
