Federal funding for public transit.
The government announced more than $11.5 million on Friday to support bus service in Dieppe and Moncton.
It will be provided over ten years through the Canada Public Transit Fund’s Baseline Funding.
Money will help to upgrade, replace and modernize bus services, starting in 2026.
“As our city grows, access to public transit is more important than ever. With a goal of one car per household, Dieppe is reducing its collective environmental footprint through optimized public transit service,” says Dieppe Mayor Yvon Lapierre.
This will ensure that residents will be able to live near public transit, which will connect them to jobs, services, and their communities.
“Codiac Transpo has experienced incredible growth over the past several years. We urgently need to both replace aging transit infrastructure and expand our fleet to accommodate the needs of our residents. This funding is welcome support that will help ensure this critical service is sustainable in our community,” adds Moncton Mayor Dawn Arnold.
The City of Dieppe will receive $1,656,670, and the City of Moncton will receive $9,863,450, both of which are divided over ten years.
