A new star in Canadian tennis.
18-year-old Vicky Mboko won the National Bank Open in Montreal.
She defeated former world number 1 Naomi Osaka in three-sets Thursday night.
It caps a remarkable tournament for Mboko, who defeated four former major champions enroute to her first WTA victory.
She’s just the second Canadian woman to win the Canadian championship in the last 55 years, joining Bianca Andreescu in 2019.
Mboko is now the 25th ranked player in the world.
She came in as a wildcard. She leaves as the champion 🏆
