The federal government missed an opportunity with its 2025 federal budget, that’s according to the Chief Executive Officer for Organigram.
The cannabis producer is based in Moncton, New Brunswick, but has facilities across the country.
“The federal government missed an opportunity to recognize the legal cannabis sector as a key contributor to the Canadian economy and to include it in that vision. No meaningful movement on excise duty reform. No progress toward a single national excise stamp. No commitment to a national cannabis export strategy, despite a global market expected to reach $140 billion,” Beena Goldenberg stated in a news release.
In 2018, Canada became the first major country to legalize cannabis.
“Without timely reform, Canada will lose its first-mover advantage, resulting in shuttered facilities and lost jobs and lost economic growth here at home,” Goldenberg added.
