September is Prostate Cancer Awareness month in Canada. The disease affects one in eight men in their lifetime and is the most common cancer to affect Canadian men. Dan Hennessey was diagnosed over eight years ago and now advocates against prostate cancer. He says some people aren’t that lucky, adding “It’s surprising. We have close to 24,000 cases of prostate cancer diagnosed each year and sadly, probably 4,000 at least parish from the disease.” Symptoms include frequent urination, blood in urine or semen and burning or pain when urinating. Hennessey recommends people get screened regularly. Prostate Cancer Canada says chances of survival are greatly increased if the disease is detected and treated in early stages.
