A cheque for $300,000 has been delivered to the Feminist Coalition of New Brunswick (Regroupement feministe du Nouveau-Brunswick) from Metro Moncton MP Robert Goguen.
The funding from Status of Women Canada is designed to give the group tools to encourage francophone women to sit on boards and commissions.
Executive Director Amély Friolet-O’Neil says it’s not enough to simply ask women to join organizations.
“It’s not enough… We have to do a lot more. We (need) those women to come into those networks and know that the information is available… and make it available for women.”
She adds a lot of tools are now lacking to better encourage women to get involved.
Goguen says women face a lot of constraints when it comes to balancing motherhood, their jobs and managing their home lives.
The Harper government wants to see government boards and commissions composed of at least 30 percent women.
