Today is Equality Day. It is the anniversary of the adoption of the Canadians Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Chair of the Human Rights Commission Randy Dickinson says the adoption of the charter came in 1982, and it has become part of what defines Canada and new Brunswick in terms of how we relate to each other as individuals and how we are perceived by the rest of the world.
He says we should be proud that we live in a society that values human rights and equality, and of how fortunate we are as Canadians to enjoy the protections provided by human rights laws and the Canadian Charter.
