The Hildegard Beautification Project is serving dual purposes in the north end of Moncton.
According to Committee Member Dwayne Hayes, it’s not just about natural beautification, it’s also a commemoration for the fallen officers last year.
Hayes says it’s a celebration of community, and helps bring the area together after the horrific events of last year.
“We had a couple small grass roots events last year – there was a small kids parade in the neighbourhood and there was a small barbecue and it was extremely well attended,” says Hayes. “And along with planting the trees and doing the beautification project we have a chance to have a living commemoration to our officers.”
Hayes says the outpouring of support from the entire community has been overwhelming.
Activities today include treeplanting from 9 to 11, and a kids parade, a bbq and some entertainment starting at 10 and running right through until 1 o’clock this afternoon.
