A prestigious national honour has been given to an engineering professor at U-N-B for improving the safety of roads and highways.
Dr. Eric Hildebrand has also been an advisor and investigator to Transport Canada and says the highways are designed better these days with allowances being made for driver error.
In order to make it safer for the growing number of older drivers, signs and pavement markings are being made brighter and bigger.
Dr. Hildebrand points out drivers are at least partly to blame for 90 per cent of collisions.
