It is October 17, which means recreational cannabis is now legal across Canada.
New Brunswickers can buy their weed online or at one of 20 Cannabis NB stores starting at 10 a.m.
There are some restrictions: you cannot buy, possess, cultivate or consume cannabis if you are under 19.
It is also illegal to consume marijuana anywhere except in your home or backyard. Hotels, inns and campgrounds can restrict visitors from smoking or vaping, but they are not able to ban other forms of cannabis consumption.
In provincial and national parks, smoking cannabis is allowed on campsites where smoking is prohibited, but not on smoke-free sites or at parks which fall under the Smoke-free Places Act.
You cannot carry more than 30 grams of dried cannabis outside of your home, and when it is in your home, it must be kept secured and inaccessible to minors.
It is also illegal to transport cannabis across Canada’s national borders.
If you plan on growing your own cannabis, you can grow up to four plants on your own property.
If travelling to another Canadian province or territory, you must respect their laws (provinces and territories can have different rules concerning cannabis and visitors should educate themselves on the legal minimum age, where you can buy cannabis, where you can use it, and how much you can possess).
