Anglophone East students on Route 143 in the Lewisville area, are enjoying a new school bus experience this year.
They are on the route chosen for one of two electric buses in New Brunswick.
David McCormick of the Transportation Department says this route was chosen as a part of a pilot project, “The battery power and distance this bus will travel will not a hindrance for us, so it looks like it will be a good fit for where we have it.”
It is a very different riding experience as compared to their other buses.
“It is much quieter for other motorists, driving inside it, it is very quiet as well. Students aren’t yelling over each other and so it is a much quieter ride in that aspect,” McCormick notes.
McCormick expects this won’t be the last electric bus added to their fleet.
“I think long range electric buses are the way we are headed. There is new technology in propane buses as well, but electric would be the direction we would love to be in, “McCormick says.
