Around 22 firefighters helped to battle a blaze at the Co-op Feed Mill on Halifax Street this morning.
Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Brian Gaudet says they arrived on scene just before 6 this morning, “When we arrived on scene, we had fire that was visible in the bagging room, and there was a lot of smoke as well. We found that the bagging equipment wsa energized and had a lot of fire around it. We used some dry chemical extinguishers to try and suppress the fire until we were able to de-energize the equipment.”
Gaudet says they were able to bring it under control very quickly, but remained on scene for several hours, “The challenge for us, was due to the arrangement of the building. We had a hard time tracking down where some of the embers had travelled to through the ventilation system.”
Three workers were on scene when the fire started, but they evacuated unharmed.
There’s no word yet on a cause.
