Canadian children aged four and under are spending too much time in front of screens. Although it’s recommended preschoolers have no more than one hour of screen time per day, 76 per cent of them do. For those children younger than 2, screen time is not recommended.
The world’s first evidence based 24 Hour Movement Guidelines for the Early Years recommend for toddlers at least 3 hours of physical activity including energetic play, spread throughout the day with more being better.
When not physically active, rather than screen time, it would be better for young children to read or be told a story by a caregiver.
