Black Friday was virtually unknown in Canada’s retail landscape just a few years ago but that’s certainly not the case anymore.
What started as a holiday tradition in the United States has spilled north of the border in a dramatic way.
Moneris spokesperson Malcolm Fowler says Canadian retailers and consumers are now embracing Black Friday.
“It’s the day when Canadians spend the most money in retail throughout the year,” he notes.
Fowler adds Black Friday has eclipsed Boxing Day for total spending but December 23rd remains the busiest day in terms of the overall number of transactions.
