If you’re in the market for a turkey, why not pick up two, and make a donation to the annual Sue Stultz and Local 999 Moncton Firefighters Association turkey drive.
It kicks off later this morning at Bessborough school.
Moncton Firefighter Christopher Jackson says they are celebrating their 20th year, but the story actually goes back even further than that, “During those early years, Sue was operating out of her Irving store on St. George Boulevard. From 1990 to 1996, they received around 900 turkeys, and after that point they kind of outgrew the store in terms of storing those birds. They were working alongside with the firefighters, and decided to move turkey central to the fire station on St. George Boulevard.”
Jackson says, over the 20 years, they have received donations of around roughly 70 thousand turkeys, with a total value of around $1.5 million.
We’ll know later this morning, just how many birds are required to ensure every resident in Southeast New Brunswick has a turkey on their table for the Christmas season.
