Nurses who work for Extra-Mural have a lot of questions about the program as it becomes integrated with Telecare and Ambulance New Brunswick under Medavie’s management.
Lise Ethier, who works as a Extra-Mural nurse based at the Dumont Hospital, says there is so much uncertainty that many nurses have decide to leave the program and there have been staff shortages recently.
Ethier says she’s also not sure if long-term intervention such as palliative care will be included since she believes Medavie wants a shorter duration and a quick turnaround.
She adds it’s not clear yet but she understands that Extra-Mural nurses may work with Ambulance New Brunswick paramedics.
Health Minister Benoit Bourque has maintained the program will not change when Medavie takes over in January and will remain a publicly-funded entity with public employees.
