The Nature Conservancy of Canada has expanded a key nature reserve in southern New Brunswick.
The not-for-profit group has purchased another 147 acres of rare and mature Acadian forest, near Riverside-Albert.
Had it not been conserved, the forest was in danger of being lost to logging due to its high timber value.
N.C.C. spokesperson Denise Roy says their nature reserve now covers over 470 acres of the forest and that they hope to continue their efforts.
“In fact, we have some projects that are in various stages of negotiations right now and so we hope to keep expanding in this region
The N.C.C. monitors these nature reserves by taking various specimens and motioning the wildlife within the area.
The forest is also home to water reserves for the community of Riverside-Albert.
