For the past two years, the City of Moncton has been picking up your trees after Christmas.
You can start putting them out at the curb next week.
Manager of Strategic Communications Austin Henderson says they help divert most of them from the landfill, “They’re used to heat the ECO360 region’s waste facility. About 92 per cent of the trees that we collect, whether that be the curbside collection, or the drop off locations, are used to heat the facility.”
This year, pickups will begin on January 4th, “You can start on the days that your regular residential waste collection is, but the trees are collected by a different group, so they are picked up as they are placed at the curb,” Henderson says.
Those picking the trees up, will assess them, “To determine whether or not it can be mulched as a part of the ECO360 program. But as long as there are no ornaments, it will be collected from the curb regardless,” Henderson says.
In Riverview, trees can be left at the curb starting on January 11th.
In Dieppe, pickups will be done on your usual collection day, January 12 through January 15th.
Kavanagh Farm is also accepting trees. They can be dropped off at the farm located at 2715 route 134.
The trees are used to feed the animals, for help with deworming.
